Physical Activity
    Seniors
Staying active and physically fit is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. Regular physical activity can improve your quality of life as well as reduce your risk of many chronic diseases.

In 2002, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey indicated that:

  • 38% of Arkansans ages 65 and older do not participate in any form of physical activity.
  • Older women participate in regular physical activity less than older men, and blacks participate less than whites.

Leading causes of death in the aging population are:

  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Stroke
  • Chronic lower respiratory diseases, and
  • Diabetes

In order to lower your chances of suffering from these diseases you must make a lifestyle change and it's never too late to start. By becoming physically active, in addition to living an otherwise healthy lifestyle, you reduce your risk of the above chronic diseases.
