County Veterans Service Officers (CVSOs)

The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs was established to provide a comprehensive network of State and County Officers to assist veterans and their dependents in applying for Federal and State benefits to which they are entitled, based on the veteran’s service in the United States Armed Forces.

Nationwide, the task of carrying out this most important program is vast in scope, touching the lives and affecting the welfare of millions of men, women, and children. Thousands of dedicated Service Officers actively participate in every phase of the humanitarian service to their fellow veterans and their dependents and survivors. In no other endeavor within the service organization is there a greater need for teamwork, since effective rehabilitation can be accomplished only through the cooperative efforts of many individuals of various and diverse talents and interests.

A most vital link in the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs statewide network of service is the County Veterans Service Officer. He/she is a person who carries out one of the basic principles for which the State Veterans Office and service organizations were founded, that is, service to the veteran, their widow, and/or orphans.

The main function of the County Veterans Service Officer is to advise and council the claimant and assist in the preparation of forms and securing the necessary supporting evidence. When the forms are properly completed, they are forwarded to the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs for presentation of the claim to the appropriate board or official of the agency involved.
