For the SFY 2001 report, the Children’s Reporting and Information System (CHRIS) used the following methodology to identify a foster child:

 

 

 

·         Open Case at any time during the SFY 2001 period

 

·         Open Removal at any time during the SFY 2001 period

 

·         Open Removal later than adoption legalized date (this captures a child, when he/she goes back into Foster Care after the adoption has been dissolved) 

 

 

 

The actual (individual clients) number of foster children within this time period is 6,286.  There were 384 clients who were in more than one case (different counties, multiple client numbers) in the past year.  At any given time, there may be about ten children who appear in more than one case (this is monitored and corrected).
