The Arkansas Commission is a grantee of the Corporation for
National and Community Service, which sub grants to AmeriCorps
programs in Arkansas. Each year, more than
300 AmeriCorps members in Arkansas address community
defined issues in education, public safety, the
environment, and other human needs.

Faith-Based
& Community Initiative

Through
the "Faith-Based & Community
Initiative" the DHS Division of Volunteerism (DOV)
offers diverse training resources, as well as
technical assistance. The training strengthens
the capacity and solid program development of
faith-based and grassroots social service
organizations and promotes long-term organizational
sustainability. Organizations become more
fundable, grant-ready and increase the impact they
have within the communities they serve.
DHS
Division of Volunteerism, the oldest state office of
volunteerism in the nation, provides training which
builds:
- organizational
capacity;
- financial
capacity;
- networking
capacity;
- outreach
capacity &
- programmatic
capacity for Arkansas' faith-based and
grassroots organizations.

Volunteer Clearinghouse

The DHS Volunteer Clearinghouse recruits, screens and refers
prospective volunteers to DHS divisions requesting
assistance and provides orientation and training for
DHS volunteers.

DHS/DOV assists with the formation and support of Volunteer
Centers, which are advocates and clearinghouses for
volunteering in local communities.

The Volunteer Programs/Persons with
Disabilities Program advocates the empowerment of
persons with disabilities to be involved in
volunteerism through education and training of the
volunteer and the organization.
