John M. Selig, Director
Arkansas Department of Health & Human Services
John is
currently overseeing the creation of the newly formed
Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services. He also
has a lead role in the development of Healthy Arkansas,
a statewide initiative focused on smoking cessation, fitness
and obesity.
Previously, John
spent six years as Department Deputy Director and, before
that, three years as Director of the Division of Mental
Health Services. In that role he focused on increasing
consumer and advocate involvement in the state’s public
mental health system.
John has served
on numerous boards including the Arkansas Minority Health
Commission and the Arkansas Health Services Permit
Commission.
John’s
experience also includes managing the Arkansas Health
Department’s home health and personal care programs, serving
on the staff of U.S. Senator David Pryor, and two years in
the Peace Corps as a teacher in West Africa.
John is a graduate of Stanford University and received a
Masters in Public Administration from Princeton University.
