Hurricane Katrina dramatically demonstrated the force of nature and the difficulty in responding to a natural disaster. Every day individuals and families experience their own hurricane when loved ones have strokes, break a hip or learn of a debilitating diagnosis. Even health professionals are often ill prepared to deal with the aftermath. What then are non-professionals to do? A new tool is available—www.ARGetCare.org—a web site that is full of information on agencies and services. The site has information on more than 3000 listing for services. AR-GetCare is designed to help you locate resources that may assist you or a family member to continue living at home or in your community. It has two tools that offer an excellent start to determining your options. The first is the Website’s Self-Assessment Tool. It can help you clarify your own needs or those of a loved one. The assessment was designed to quickly evaluate your care needs. There are 12 questions that take about 5-10 minutes to complete. When you finish, care options to meet your specific needs are recommended. The Learn about Care Options section of GetCare is designed to help you learn about common care options. Long term care services are organized into seven main categories. Each category includes a range of care options. Simply click on a category for a list of services that are available in most communities. Get the information you need in order to make important decisions and to find providers, resources, and support. The six categories are: Care Coordination and Other Services In-Home Care Community Health and Social Services Nursing Homes Residential Facilities Medical Services Caregiver Resources A special section, Bridging the Gap, is devoted to Alzheimer’s Disease. Services can be searched by type of service, county or key word. The size of the print on the screen can be enlarged by simply clicking on a prompt, no need to change computer settings. Similarly, you can choose from English or Spanish versions of the AR-GetCare. AR-GetCare was designed in accordance with the State of Arkansas’ accessibility requirements. The web site is one of a growing number of efforts to give Arkansans a choice of how and where they receive long term care. Talk to Us. Help us help you! Whether you are seeking information for yourself or a family member, whether you are a consumer or a long-term care professional, we want this site to meet your needs. With your help, we can link persons seeking information about long-term care with the organizations and providers who can help them. Please take a moment to e-mail us (Arhelp@getcare.org) with any questions, comments, or suggestions about this site, how it works, and the types of information provided. A special note to agencies, organizations and facilities that provide services. The web site is designed so that you can correctly display the information about your organization. You do this by a simple log on process from the home page of the site. After that you can update, change or correct any information about our organization. Division of Aging and Adult Services |
