John is Director of the Arkansas Department
of Human Services. DHS programs include
Medicaid, Child Welfare, Behavioral Health,
Developmental Disabilities, Aging and Adult
Services, Juvenile Justice, and Early
Childhood Education.
Previously, John spent three years as
Director of the Division of Mental Health
Services. In that role he focused on
increasing consumer and advocate involvement
in the state’s public mental health system.
He initiated Healing Minds, Changing
Attitudes a statewide mental health public
awareness campaign that received a national
award for excellence from the National
Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
John has served on numerous boards including
the Arkansas Minority Health Commission and
the Arkansas Health Services Permit
Commission.
John’s experience also includes managing the
Arkansas Health Department’s home health and
personal care programs, serving on the staff
of U.S. Senator David Pryor, and two years
in the Peace Corps as a teacher in West
Africa.
John is a graduate of Stanford University
and received a Masters in Public
Administration from Princeton University.
