On
January 14, 2003, Jim Wood was sworn in as Auditor of State
for the State of Arkansas. After sixteen years in the General
Assembly, Jim Wood is serving his first term as a state constitutional
officer.
As an experienced farmer, businessman and legislator, Wood brings
common sense and integrity to public service. He also is using |
|
technology
to make the auditor's office more efficient, as well as make it more accountable and accessible to the public.
In addition
to his service in the Senate from 1979 to 1988 and the House from
1997 to 2002, Wood's public service career has included work on
the Woodruff County Quorum Court and the Agricultural Advisory Board
of the Southern Legislative Conference.
Over the years,
Wood has received many awards and distinctions, including being
named one of the top three Young Farmers & Ranchers in Arkansas
by Farm Bureau in 1974 and 1976, and being named Outstanding Freshman
Legislator by the State Employees Association in 1979.
He received the Winthrop Rockefeller award for contribution to the
arts in 1979, the Distinguished Service Award from the Disabled
American Veterans in 1983, the Exceptional Service Award from the
Disabled American Veterans in 1987, and the National Commander's
Award from Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1987.
Born in Newport,
Arkansas, Wood attended Tupelo Elementary, Newport Junior High, Augusta High School and Arkansas State Teacher's College in Conway. He is now retired from farming, but still owns farm land in Woodruff County.
Jim Wood is a member
of the Church of Christ. He and his wife, the former Ann Duncan,
have been married for 37 years and they have two married sons and two granddaughters.
