License Transfer (Reciprocity) From Another State

The Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy accepts applicants for licensure as a pharmacist from every state, except Florida and California. Florida and California are associate members of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy; therefore, these states do not participate in the licensure transfer program. We also accept applicants from Puerto Rico.

The first step in reciprocating to Arkansas is to obtain a Preliminary Application for Transfer of Pharmaceutic Licensure from our office. Or, you can obtain an application from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) web site which is www.nabp.net. This form must be completed and sent to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. The fee for processing a Preliminary Application is $250. The fee for application to additional states is $50 for each state (if the request for additional states is submitted at the same time as the first).

The N.A.B.P. will clear your application, and your original state of licensure will certify your grades. This is accomplished electronically. Once this is accomplished, NABP will prepare an OFFICIAL APPLICATION. This application will be mailed to the applicant with instructions for filing that application with the recipient Board of Pharmacy.

Once the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy receives the application, you will receive notification of the next meeting of the Board where you will complete the process of reciprocity. You will be notified that you must take a Jurisprudence Examination on the day before the Board Meeting. The Board of Pharmacy will then interview you.

Once you have successfully passed the jurisprudence exam and been interviewed. The Board of Pharmacy office will issue a license to practice pharmacy and you will be an Arkansas Pharmacist.

If you have questions regarding licensure or other matters, you can call us at (501) 682-0190 or e-mail us at Robin.Morrissey@arkansas.gov. We will be glad to talk with you.
