Home Ownership Month Celebration to be held in Camden

Each year since 2002, President Bush has designated June as National Home Ownership Month.  This year’s theme- “Promoting and Protecting Homeownership” – is designed to promote first-time homebuying; to encourage both potential and current homebuyers to learn about the responsibilities that come with homeownership; and to help consumers both read and understand the fine print of a mortgage.

To celebrate, on June 29, at 10:30 a.m., the Arkansas Development Finance Authority (ADFA), the Camden/Ouachita County Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) and the Housing Authority of the City of Camden will hold a reception and open house at 2615 Old Smackover Road in Camden.  The celebration will highlight the award of $425,000 in Federal HOME Investment Partnership Program funds that will be used to build five new affordable single-family houses in Camden, AR.

The location of the event is significant because it is the last of five affordable single family homes that were built by Camden/Ouachita County CHDO and the Housing Authority of the City of Camden from a previous HOME award.

“This is a time to highlight the importance of providing families with attractive, safe, affordable single family housing that they can afford to maintain for the long term,” said ADFA Vice President for Housing Sara Braswell.  “We know that homeownership plays a role in helping families build wealth and strengthens their communities.”
