AAPPA MISSION:
"The Arkansas Adult Probation and Parole Association is dedicated to providing leadership, information, and training to members while promoting a more efficient Criminal Justice System."
HISTORY
The Arkansas Adult Probation and Parole Association is a nonprofit professional
organization which serves as a forum for Probation/Parole Officers, and
other members of the Criminal Justice System. The Association developed
its first Constitution in 1979. The four founding members saw a need
to unite probation and parole officers towards a common goal. For the
first few years, AAPPA conferences were held annually. The AAPPA now
holds conferences twice a year, (Fall/Spring) bringing the membership
together for quality training and exchange of ideas. The AAPPA has grown
from just a handful of members in 1979, to over 350 members today. The
Association continues to grow and exert influence at the State level.
OBJECTIVES:
The Objectives of the AAPPA are:
- To accomplish the exchange of ideas, information, and perspectives between and among the supportive friends of the association,
- To adopt professional standards for those engaged in supervision of offenders and to aid and encourage the achievement of those standards.
- To seek and promote legislation for the improvement of community supervision for adults.
- To cooperate with all agencies which are interested in the advancement of probation and parole objectives.
- To increase public awareness and acceptance for community supervision as an effective means of prevention, and reduction of criminal behaviors.
VISION:
To provide a voice for the probation and parole profession in effective policy toward community-based sanctions to provide for offender accountability and victim restoration.
